In early May during Golden week, I finally —for what feels like an eternity— toured Tokyo!

It was a dream come true! I did and visited so many of the things and places I wanted and more!

I've posted over 200 photos of the various areas I visited, some of them creative, some of them passerby shots. I loaded up my metro pass card with $60 worth of cash, this lasted me five days to zip around the city to wherever I felt like going! Open road!

Below I've summarized my trip into portions, detailing a bit regarding where I was and what I did!

Around Town and Akihabara 

I arrived in the afternoon, checked-into my capsule hotel (capsule coffin as I call it), very cheap at only $28 equivalent per day! Then went on a hunt for my portable wifi device in Akihabara. Didn't want to be wandering around Tokyo without internet access! I ended up visiting Akihabara about 4/5 times, it was only a 5 minute train ride away after all! Lovely scenery to look at to pass the time on the train.

Tokyo SkyTree & FujiTV (Dragon Ball Z Exhibit)

Tokyo SkyTree was just one station away from my hotel. Wanted to go up but there was a one-hour lineup, decided to go another day instead. Headed over to FujiTV to tour the Dragon Ball Z science exhibit! Had a blast there, was lucky there were so few people that day. Life-like Frieza, interactive exhibits, games, merchandise, it was great!

Odaiba & Tokyo Tower

Odaiba is home to the famous Gundam statue (sadly he did not blast off). There's a crazy cool mall with various interesting stores including a Gundam store and display! There was also some sort of pop idol dance going on when I emerged out of the mall. I never realized how old the Tokyo Tower actually is, you can definitely tell the Sky Tree is from a newer era. Tokyo Tower was neat enough to still go up at night, they had a One Piece set display on the ground floor, right next to a OP store which I didn't make into cause it closed for the night!

Akihabara & Takeshita

Went to Akihabara and roamed some streets eventually leading to Takeshita street, famous for fashion, cafes and other unique stores. I didn't stay for very long but it was a nice walk down and around the corner!

Meiji Shrine & Yoyogi Park & National Stadium

I toured the open-for-everyone portion of Meiji shrine, but opted out paying for the inner part of it. I was a big fan of the whole Meiji revolution arc in Japan's history, s was nice to visit this place. There is an awesome (Yoyogi) park located nearby, tons of people were having picnics, playing sports, and just having a great time. So jealous I couldn't have some friends with me at this point haha.

Pokemon Center (Mega Tokyo) & Asakusa

I knew I had to visit the PKMN center, it was really neat to check out and had some great displays, ended up buying a cool 8-bit pokeball key-chain. The rest of the mall was ok, didn't have time to explore the rest of the area outside though. Went to visit Asakusa the next day while I waited for my time to enter the Sky Tree (they gave line tickets in the morning). Asakusa has so much tasty food! Lots of neat little stores surrounded by a few very large temples and shrines. Very busy place and a great tourist destination! I also visited a cat cafe!

Tokyo Sky Tree & Ritz-Carlton Park

Finally making it up to the Sky Tree, I made sure to take plenty of photos! I paid the second fee to get to the very top at 450 meters high! Definitely a pretty view of Tokyo from here. Speedy elevator trip, everything is still pristine as the tower is pretty much brand new. Don't be scared to step on the glass floor! Afterwards I explored a park near the Roppongi district before grabbing some lunch.

Roppongi & Asahi TV

I decided to visit Roppongi on May 4th (Star wars day), and i'm still not sure whether it was a good idea or bad idea. Bad idea cause the line was about 6 hours to get into the SW exhibit, but nice because there was plenty of people and cosplayers on the sunny day. The Naruto exhibit was also packed so that didn't work out. Hoping to go back soon and check it out before it ends! Asahi TV was open for tours so I checked out the cool stuff they had there. Some you will probably have seen before!

Conclusion

My 5 day trip to Tokyo was as amazing as I could have hoped for. I didn't get to check out everything I wanted to see, but I think I made a pretty good dent in my list. I'll have plenty of more things to do and places to see once I go back next time.
